Mrs. Jones: Are you sure that you’ll need all this stuff? Your father and I aren’t going to rent a U-Haul1 so you can take your entire room to California with you!
Melissa: Come on2, mom! I know these hiking boots3 will come in handy! And I definitely need those CDs.
Mrs. Jones: Can’t we just mail you some of your things if you need them?
Melissa: But it could take up to a week for me to receive things! What if I can’t wait that long!
Mrs. Jones (laughing): Well, we wouldn’t wanna do anything to jeopardize4 your mental health. Honey, just try to limit everything to those suitcases until we come down5 to visit you after Christmas. I will be more than happy to mail anything you need down to you.
Melissa: All right! But I know I am going to forget something! What time is it?
  Mrs. Jones: 4:30. Why?
Melissa: I promised Jessica that I would go over to her house around 5 o’clock to help her fill out some forms for the police academy. Can I finish doing this later?
Mrs. Jones: OK, but don’t spend all night over there. Your father and I are going out to dinner and a movie tonight, so when you get home, please take Judd out.
Melissa: I’ll try to be home before 9 o’clock. I’d like to get all these stuff packed by Monday, so I can say goodbye to everyone before I leave.
Mrs. Jones: I’ll be glad to help you tomorrow afternoon after I get back from playing tennis. You have your airline tickets and the check-in and arrival instructions that the school sent you, right? You’d better put them somewhere where you can find them!
  3. hiking boots:
  5. come down: 一般从北到南说come down,若是从南到北则说come up。
Melissa: (putting on her coat): Yes, I put them in my backpack, just in case the airline loses my luggage again! Have fun at the movie!
Mrs. Jones: See you later. Say hello to Jessica for me.
  Melissa: OK. Bye!
A week later at the airport.
Melissa: I can’t believe that I’m finally leaving for college!
Jessica: No kidding! And I’m starting the Police Academy in three weeks!
Mr. Jones: Here are the name tags for your luggage. You’d better write your new address on them just in case you get separated along the way!
Mrs. Jones: Here’s a pen. Hand me your backpack. I’ll hold it while you write down your name.
Mr. Jones: You’re next in line, Melissa. You’d better get your ID and ticket out.
Melissa: Mom, can you please get my ID out of my wallet?

Jessica: I saw you put your ID in your backpack. Here, I’ll help you find it!
Mr. Jones: Jessica, I can tell with your keen powers of observation you’ll do well as a police officer!
Jessica: I hope so, Mr. J!
Melissa (to the ticket agent): Hi. I’m flying to LAX this morning. How long is the flight?
Ticket Agent: Can I see your identification, please? Has anyone asked you to carry anything on this flight for them?
  Melissa: No.
Ticket Agent: Have all of your bags been in your control at all times?
  Melissa: Yes.
Ticket Agent: Do you have any luggage that you will need to check in?
  Melissa: Yes. Two pieces.
Ticket Agent (handing Melissa a boarding pass6): Here you go, Ms. Jones. Your flight will be approximately three and a half hours. Have a nice flight.
