《If I Die Young》所描绘的情境基于亚瑟王时代的一个凄美的传说。一个美丽的少女Shalott爱上了圆桌骑士中最出色的Lancelot，但是他们的爱情是被诅咒的。为了见到心爱的人，Shalott明知厄运即将来临，仍选择坦然面对，唱着歌荡舟顺水而下。当她终于得偿所愿时，却因诅咒而死去。英国诗人Alfred Lord Tennyson根据这个传说写出了《夏洛特夫人》（The Lady of Shalott）的爱情绝唱――只因惊鸿一瞥，不顾一切向爱人奔去，静静等待生命停息的那刻……
